FAQ

Section Title

What is an internet exchange point (IX)?

An IXP is a physical infrastructure that allows different network operators to exchange internet traffic directly between their networks.

Why should my organization connect to an IXP?

Connecting to an IXP can improve network performance, reduce latency, and lower costs by enabling direct traffic exchange with other networks along with access to other services.

How does an IXP benefit my network's performance?

IXPs facilitate direct peering, leading to shorter and more efficient data paths, resulting in improved speed and reliability for end-users.

Who can connect to the IXP?

Any organization with an Autonomous System Number (ASN) can connect to CM-IX This includes ISPs, content providers, enterprises, and other network operators.

What are the technical requirements for connecting to the IXP?

To connect to CM-IX, your organization needs to have a compatible router, IPv4 and/or IPv6 address space, and an ASN. Detailed technical requirements can be found in the Resources area.

Do I need physical equipment in the CM-IX data center?

No equipment is required at the CM-IX data center location. Interconnect can be made from a remote location. If your organization wishes to locate equipment at the data center, that is available.

How is traffic routed at the IXP?

Traffic is routed based on BGP (Border Gateway Protocol). Members exchange routing information to determine the most efficient paths for data transmission.

Is there a fee for connecting to the IXP?

There are no fees associated with connecting to CM-IX.

How do I register to connect my network to the IXP?

Contact us to receive a membership form. Once submitted, an engineer will review and provide further instructions for the connection process.

Can I connect to the IXP remotely?

Remote peering is possible. Contact us for more information and to discuss the options available.

What security measures are in place at the IXP?

CM-IX implements various security measures, including filtering to prevent malicious traffic. Members should adhere to CM-IX technical requirements found under Resources area.

How can I monitor my network's traffic at the IXP?

Members can access traffic statistics and monitoring through the CM-IX portal.
